Hubble 2009 Hubble 2009 In the 2009 edition of the Hubble Science Year in Review you'll find information on an asteroid impact on Jupiter and also about the smallest Kuiper Belt object ever detected. You can also find out about high-speed ballistic stellar interlopers; multi-wavelength observations of the center of our Milky Way galaxy; and a flaring galactic jet in the galaxy M87, as well as new evidence for dark matter around dwarf galaxies and starbursts in dwarf galaxies, and how a newly refined Hubble constant narrows possible explanations for dark energy. In addition, you can find out more about Hubble's history, design, and operations, and about Servicing Mission 4, during which Hubble instruments were successfully repaired and updated. See also the "Supporting Hubble" section, which features a selection of profiles about dedicated Hubble personnel. See details >

Hubble Science Year in Review is an annual collection of essays and images designed to share the year's most important Hubble science, as determined by astronomers. The essays go into detail about the research, and can thus provide greater context than the typical news release. Each edition is released in the following year — for example, the 2007 book was released in 2008, and the 2006 book in 2007.

These volumes provide only a highlighted selection of the year's discoveries and center on topics rather than on individual news items. For the complete collection of Hubble news and more specifically focused information, visit NewsCenter. For the best selection of Hubble images, visit Gallery
