Michael G. Hauser, Deputy Director of the Space Telescope Science Institute since 1995 and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md., is a member of the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) science team sharing the Peter Gruber Foundation's 2006 Cosmology Prize. Hauser has developed and used infrared and submillimeter instruments from ground-based, balloon-borne, and space-based telescopes to study the cosmic microwave and infrared background radiations, and the interstellar and interplanetary media.
