Hubble Finds Carbon Dioxide on an Extrasolar Planet

Astronomer Mark Swain (NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory) and his team used Hubble's Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer (NICMOS) to study infrared light emitted from exoplanet HD 189733b. Swain identified carbon dioxide in the planet's atmosphere.
