Anniversary Events

Join us in celebrating 30 successful years with the iconic Hubble Space Telescope! You can view Hubble’s 30th anniversary image at science centers, planetariums, museums, libraries and other places of learning across the country. Organizations chosen to receive an image will host a free event open to the public at their venues on or after the Hubble anniversary date of April 24, 2020.

The Hubble Space Telescope has observed the cosmos, from planets, moons, and other objects in our own solar system to distant galaxies in the far reaches of the observable universe. Over the years, we have released special anniversary images to celebrate Hubble’s launch. The subject of each anniversary image is an object or region in space that is intriguing both aesthetically and scientifically. Each image is an expression of the enduring power of Hubble. They showcase the beauty and mystery of the universe, as well as our increasing scientific understanding. The 30th anniversary image will captivate and inspire a new generation of space science enthusiasts, reaching a broader, more diverse audience than ever before.

Hubble’s 30th anniversary image of an awe-inspiring object in space will highlight Hubble’s continued excellence at the forefront of science, and will demonstrate its legacy and promise for future discoveries over the next decade.

Unveiling Events

NOTICE: In response to rapidly changing circumstances due to the novel coronavirus, many venues will be rescheduling their Hubble 30th Anniversary events. Rather than a celebration only on the actual anniversary date of April 24, many venues will now shift to an ongoing celebration of the Hubble Space Telescope’s amazing 30 years (and counting!) of scientific discovery, and their events will occur on different dates.
Please contact the venue directly for event updates. NOTE: some organizations are working with Partner locations to provide events, and you may be directed to a Partner’s web site when clicking a link below.
